MUSIC & PERFORMANCE

"Teachers inspire pupils to be creative, with an emphasis on music and drama, which helps to develop pupils’ self-confidence through performance." Ofsted

Queenswood School has a strong Performing Arts department that includes Drama, Spoken English and Music. Children take part in assemblies and school productions with the opportunity to perform to wider external audiences. The joy of music and performing is part and parcel of Queenswood School - from our youngest child in Reception through to the confident and accomplished Year 6 pupils - every child has this experience and opportunity to shine and express themselves through the performing arts.

At a time when there are so many cutbacks in this area of education, at Queenswood we know that singing and music-making is the heart and soul of a school.

In the Autumn term, all children take part in the Harvest Festival and Carol Service - with lots of carol-singing in the community and the Infants present their glorious Nativity Play. Our children are often in high demand at Christmas as they sing to residents in Old People's Homes and in the town centre, spreading Christmas cheer.

During the Spring term all the children in school take part in the Spring Review.

Pupils in the Junior Department present a musical play in the summer term, much to the delight of the other children, families and friends. An annual musical treat is the House Music Competition which involves every child: we invite an experienced music teacher to come along and judge the event and offer valuable feedback to help these young performers. Preparing for this events encourages team work and the competition is held in a good spirit of celebration.

Individual piano, violin, woodwind and singing lessons are available and many children in the school enjoy these additional lesson. Children are entered for examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music  - we enjoy celebrating the marvellous successes and achievements of our pupils.

The school has a recorder group  and school orchestra: their performances are enjoyed by all and they are often heard in Friday's Celebration Assembly.
The Juniors are entered for examinations each year with the English Speaking Board and again we are delighted to celebrate 100% success in these exams - invariably our children gain outstanding grades. These experiences help to stimulate self-confidence and self-esteem - vital preparation for today's world.

All these activities form an integral part of life at Queenswood School. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend all these activities.
